7 Creative Strategies
The purpose of this project is to visually represent a simple, useful object through the lens of each of the 7 Creative Strategies. They are: combination, juxtaposition, isolation, metaphor or simile, change of context or environment, physical shape similarity, and material change, swap, or focus. These strategies are used to develop creative solutions to express meaningful ideas. These strategies are valuable tools effective for use in a variety of design projects.

A wood screw and button are combined in this composition. They are both types of fasteners, but are used in very different ways. Their similarities, as well as their differences, make for an interesting combination.

The two types of buttons provide a great deal of contrast. The button on the top is the nuclear button, capable of inflicting unthinkable damage. The button on the bottom is in direct contrast. It is harmless, cute, and carefree.
The buttons and donuts are similar in the fact that they are both round with holes in the middle. However, the button stands out from the donuts because it is a different color with different characteristics.
This belly button captures the viewer's attention since it is not what the viewer expects to see. It is a simile of the original meaning.
Although video game controllers are full of buttons, they are not usual made with buttons of this type. This is a change of environment for typical buttons which are mainly found on clothing.
In this photograph, the button takes the place of a lime on the side of the glass. The two objects are similar in shape and appearance, although very different in function.
This is a material swap showing buttons made of rubber and metal rather than plastic, which is their main composition.
